Obsidian plugins: Word-Smith
A dedicated tool for writers who like to stay organised

The developer says…
Lightweight, free, and working within the Vault you already have. No project wizard, no special ‘book folder’, no AI or telemetry near your texts.
Your book lives wherever you put it, your chapters are whatever files you like, and Word-Smith takes it from there.
Every feature has its own toggle, so take what you like and leave the rest off.
Features
- The organiser: an outliner that allows you to drag and drop to sort, and order your notes.
- Writing modes: Zen, Letter box, Typewriter and Hemingway.
- Themes to colour the entire interface.
- The ‘powerline’ bar: words, characters, reading time, tasks, properties, backlinks, the note’s flag, the time, the battery, and a button for every menu.
- Export: PDF, docx, md, html and a print preview.
- Writing history and the report: shows a note, a folder or a selection and its numbers: word count, target, characters, syllables, sentences, paragraphs, pages, reading time and reading grade.
- Additional: prose checks, parts of speech colour coded, typography, and I could keep going.
Our view
There’s no doubt that Word-Smith is a powerful book manager and outliner for those that need or want one. But for those who prefer not to have something organising their every move, Obsidian offers a simpler solution – DIY.
