The Markdown Link No. 4
Links that attracted my attention recently
An occasional post from The Markdown Handbook.
Among today’s links are a powerful editor for markup languages, a new-to-me markdown editor, a fresh static site generator sees the light, and there’s an opportunity to regain your digital sovereignty.
- ReText is a simple but powerful editor for markup languages. It is based on the Markups module, which supports markdown, reStructuredText, Textile and AsciiDoc. You can also add support for custom markups using Python modules.
- Static site generator StudioCMS v0.1 has been released. StudioCMS is a content management system built on top of Astro Studio.
- HelixNotes works on Linux, Windows and macOS. It’s a local markdown/note-taking app built with Tauri, SvelteKit and Rust. It works with standard markdown files on your filesystem, and there’s no sync and no lock-in. The only thing missing from my point of view is the ability to adjust the line length to make it more comfortable to read and write, but after contacting its developer that’s promised for the next release.
- Cheaters is a customisable cheatsheet built of for OS X. It has built-in markdown conversion for easy cheatsheet creation. Its creator, Brett Terpstra, says he will be publishing some updated markdown cheatsheet tools soon.
- According to this post from Cloudflare bots and scrapers are bad, but agents are seen as the new first-class citizens of the web. Here’s the why: “Markdown has quickly become the lingua franca for agents and AI systems as a whole. The format’s explicit structure makes it ideal for AI processing, ultimately resulting in better results while minimizing token waste.” Compared to a typical blog post in html, a markdown document results in an “80% reduction in token usage”.
- Fed up with Trump, Vance, et al.? The European alternatives page offers you the chance to change that, an opportunity to regain at least some of your digital nous.
